I have not been following the diet well at all. I had an old acquaintance come back into my life. Not exactly thrilled. I forgot how tiring he is. He is nice. I am not sure I want him back. I realize he will read this, some time, he is nice, so are shots for antiviral. No one wants a shot, either. Especially where they give them. (usually arm or shoulder, sometimes the ass) (one doesn't want the shot, usually the best place for the shot is someone else)
I think I am maintaining the weight. This morning I had pork and an apple. Yesterday I had roast beef and a grapefruit. I think I will eat more vegetation and fewer apples, as much as I like them. Yesterday I walked to downtown, back, and biked a bit too. I was active, yesterday. I am glad that the snow is finally melting, I will be able to bike more. I miss biking.
I made/finished a greenhouse yesterday. It is nothing permanent, covered with the same plastic that one uses for a drop cloth, so it is light weight and, if it gets damaged, it will be easy to repair or replace. I put some of the apple seedlings in it, the two grape vines and a tomato plant in it, yesterday, when I brought them back in, they looked so much healthier than they had up to that point. I am going to bring them all in, tonight, take them out, tomorrow, bring in the tomatoes and peppers, leave the vines, apples and bulbs, just keep them watered. I love a good garden.
I saw Steel Magnolias, yesterday? day before? it was good. Better than I thought. I forgot what it was about. I thought it was about cannibalism, it was about pulling the plug. I was hoping for cannibalism. Maybe I am confusing it with Fried Green Tomatoes. I liked Eating Raul. That movie was a hoot. Speaking of B and lower movies, anyone in here want to see a virtually pointless movie that is funny but dark, make a LOT of popcorn, see Arnold (1973, staring Stella Stevens, Roddy McDowall, Jamie Farr and a few others, Jamie's character really loses his head) I need to watch Arnold this afternoon (yes, I have the DVD, one can find copies of it sometimes) and then watch Murder by Death then the remake Clue. (I have NO life!.)

Saturday...
it is cold outside. I have been working on Madonna's "Hanky Panky" on a computer program I think I am about to make the final purchase for. I am nearing the end of the upgrade trial period, and, this is impressive. Finale PrintMusic is nice. Doesn't have all the instruments I realize, but what it does have is nice enough....for now...and believe me I am def considering upgrading to ultimate premium it offers when I have the money. It isn't really going to be cheap, but, had I purchased the PrintMusic from the start it wouldn't have been cheap, either. I have been trading up, seeing if I will like or use it. I forgot how much fun it is to take a piece of piano music and play with it. Right now it sounds almost like her original release without the drums. Almost. It needs a slightly bigger horn section, but, for a small jazz bar piece it is good.
I have decided that my free days will be the day after my weigh day, from now on, it would be like a rest day. Not huge, not really.
Today, so far, I have had five cups (5.5 oz per cup, english standard teacup measure) with 1 oz milk and 1 oz sobe pina colada. It is good in coffee, gives the effect of cheating and only using a small portion. I also had a grapefruit.
for lunch, probably a couple tablespoons peanut butter and an apple.

huge smile on my face
this morning I got on the scale after using the restroom and I am at 204. I am smiling again as I look at the numbers. What is weird is I can sort of see the weight loss when I look in the mirror. (one I hate looking in the mirror, two, the mirror hates it when I look in it)
Today, weather providing, I am going for a bike ride to something called "the tridge" It is a tri point bridge that connects where two rivers converge. My mom helped somewhat when it was being constructed, don't remember how, something to do with her being Norwegian and it having a tridge troll (must have been me).
One of my herbs from last year is coming up, don't know which, and I found some popcorn from last year still on the ear outside. I grabbed it, put it in an envelope and am going to grow it again, this year. IT is a really unique, tender, nutty actually sweet flavor. I didn't find that much, which will mean I will have to plant it inside, again, to avoid it being eaten by animals while it's in seed form. Last year I planted it in rows, this year I am going to plant it in a hex like pattern, maybe that is the more correct way, not sure, had a rather large harvest last year from them being in rows (only problem is is I am NOT finding the corn from last year, what happened to it????)

today was interesting
went to Dow Gardens with mum, they have the butterfly exhibit going on. It was nice, got I bunch of nice photos in the butterfly chamber and outside. The melting snow and the small, man made river were nice.
I am not sure if I mentioned this but my rabbits have a friend. I fed it, gave it an apple quarter. It came up about 2 feet from me and showed less fear than this morning when I was outside.
But you didn't come here to read my day to day dribble.
breakfast was apple and grapefruit
coffee with whole milk and stevia
lunch more grapefruit
went to the Grace A Dow library and had some coffee with egg nog syrup and sweet and low.
for dinner...yes, I had actual food
one burrito
turkey with one ounce melted cream cheese
glass of milk
two boiled eggs
and something else that was "healthy" (I remembered it was one serving of popcorn, popped in beef fat, damn, I love that stuff. I found it pops bigger if it is kept in the freezer just before it is popped)
I almost had mom stop at Kroger on the way home so I could grab some fried chicken. I decided I have enough chicken in the freezer and I can probably make it a bit less "fast food breaded" (which I would have eaten the breading) and have all the same flavor. I am stocking up on some seasonings that are, from what I can tell, the same seasonings that KFC used in it's original recipe. I can put the seasonings on the raw, frozen chicken, toss them in the pressure cooker and have the exact (or super close) flavor with a lot less guilt.
tomorrow I weigh myself (I am doing the weigh self posts the same day I change the cat litter, every 5 days)

I am liking this
for breakfast I had about a half cup of grapes and 3 hard boiled eggs.
It is supposed to be nice today, but it is still only 29 out. I will be moving the grape vines out, slowly, so they can grow accustomed to the out of doors. I think I am going, once they have been in and out a week or so, during the day, to put them between the storm door and the entrance door, so they can be closer to the moving out in april. It smells fresh outside, which is nice.
I like hard boiled eggs as an alternative to frying them or fussing over getting something that takes time. I like to boil two or three meals, at least, of eggs, at once. I pick a dye to distinguish them from raw eggs. Today they came out ditto purple. It is easy, dye, vinegar, water and eggs. It isn't expensive. Besides, this way, should I prepare more eggs, I can pick another colour for the fresher eggs.
I will be back later. Today I am going to start work on the (mini) greenhouse. I know how much space I want in it, though I am not sure if I want it long or more square. I want to be able to put two complete drainage trays in it. If it were more square it (would seem) to be more steady, where as if it were longer it would seem that the wind would be able to knock it over, easier. I am having a lot fewer garden plant than I did last year. About half. And I am not growing spinach. That was a bush. I hope the spinach seeds died, though, I am sure they didn't. Seeds that mature out of doors in most garden plants seem to be able to rough the winter. But, with that system, I have gotten some very tasty tomatoes as a result.
I grabbed some tomato and hot pepper seeds from last year, dried them out, and, if I hadn't gotten all gung ho and fertilized them, some of them would still be here. I have to remember (bangs head) that seedlings don't need as much in fertilizer than the more adult plants. The ones that did survive are growing very nice.

monday morning...
bladder and cats woke me at or before 7 am. cats had food, they didn't want attention, they just didn't want me to go back to sleep.
for breakfast I am having one chicken leg quarter with onions broccoli and cauliflower.
probably same for lunch.
it is now 9 55 am.
going shopping to get seasonings and lumber. Not sure if I need any more food at this point, I may get some beef. It has been a long time since I had beef. I like chicken, as you can tell, I also like fish. Pork is ok for a change, now and then, but not my favorite. It tastes like chicken, and honestly, chicken is cheaper.
will be back on later.
had a grape fruit
for dinner I am having a fruit smoothie of one grape fruit, one apple, two strawberries, two stalks celery, 4 ice cubes, water and liquid stevia. It is good. I may have another before I go to bed.
mom and I had to go to the same areas to shop so we carpooled (ok, I don't have a car, I am a really REALLY bad driver, I help her with gas, feels good) I got wood to make a mini greenhouse and if I have enough left I will make a separate cage for my male rabbit. I think it is Rorschach. I will know in a while when I get them separated and give them the birth test. I hope it isn't huge litter, I wouldn't know what to do with them, but, they should be beautiful rabbits.
I am not missing bread. Oh, I had a bit more of that dessert apple stuff, this morning. It was good, though it was a bit tart...like me.
This sucks, I just went to weather.com and the local temperature wasn't available. It is warm out, though, and I think I am going to bike to the dollar tree. Or I could just save it for tomorrow when it is supposed to be a bit warmer.

yesterday was rest day
It was an ok day, yesterday, I went biking, ate nothing more than I usually do except I baked something that was good. I took either 5 or 6 apples, cored and sliced them, left the peel on, and baked them with raisins, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, stevia, 2 tbsp sugar, 2 tbsp flour, 1/4 c vinegar and crumbled pie shell (about 1 tbsp beef fat and 3/4 cup flour). It was split into 4, had one part friday night, half of it yesterday and today I am saving the rest for a friend I will be seeing tomorrow. Yes, I think you are right, apple crumble is not a diet item, but, after reading the recipes for it I used less grease for the pie shell. It tasted remotely like minced meat. There were only 22g of carbs from the flour per serving.
I weighed myself this morning I am still at 210.
I just googled total carbs in a mcdonald's bun, it is 37. I feel a bit better, oddly enough. I am so accustomed to eating a couple peanut butter and jam sandwiches without thinking either way about them.
fun:
1 slice of bread 14 carbs total bread 4 slices 56 carbs
2 tbsp peanut butter 7 carbs 4 tbsp 14
1 tbsp jam 13 2 tbsp 26
What I have read, seen, watched and heard from all the scientists and doctors that weigh in on carbs from wheat it converts to sugar. I have not a clue as to why carbs in general don't convert to sugar, but, all the researchers I have taken advice from claim they don't. I think it borders on the question of "why are 110 calories of fresh peanuts more healthy than 110 calories of soda?" I have not had a pbj sandwich in...since I started this diet and am craving them. But, now that I am looking at just the carbs I am craving them less. What is sad, I have been eating just the peanut butter now and then. The research I have been doing on google and other sources tell me that carbs from apples and nuts are totally different from carbs from wheat, and, from what I can tell, I have been eating a lot better than I have been, even if I have been eating quite a bit of apples.
I love apples. I think I have mentioned that.
a 12 oz can of coke has 140 calories and 39 grams of carbs
peanuts, one cup, chopped (Like I am going to eat that many peanuts in one sitting) 862 calories, 22 grams of carbs. the peanuts sound a bit healthier. One ounce (which is about how many I eat in one sitting)
one ounce of peanuts 168 calories and 4 grams of carbs (which burn slower and act more as actual energy)
one apple with skin (depending on size I am not sure) 65 calories 17 grams carbs
the stevia I am using from NOW products has no carbs.
yes, the carbs in apples are a bit high but any fresh fruit is better than any can of pop
for breakfast I am having about a cup of grape and a grapefruit and will be making coffee, soon.
later on I had one serving of popcorn
4 poached eggs, hard
3 tablespoons peanut butter
2 oz neufchatel cream cheese
11 oz 1% milk
and I have such a headache!

hi
today, I broke my rule, first thing, I got on the scale nekkid...I am up to 210. I really am eating considerably less, and, am encountering the slowly gain a bit of weight that most people on eating plans encounter before they start to loose. I was on the atkins, twice, the weight watchers, once, a vegetarian, 3 or 4 times, the slight weight gain is normal. Yes, to any of the people reading, I am seriously eating LESS! I used to eat quite a bit more. And my over all choices and amounts of food, it was amazing that I remained under 230, looking back.
This morning I had the other half of dinner, the vegetables and the remaining chicken quarter left from last night and for lunch I had three T (or tbsp) of peanut butter. I am just now getting a bit hungry, it is going on 3:30. I also had an apple. I will need to go to dollar tree, tomorrow, or today, and get more frozen vegetables. That place is neat, it has broccoli/cauliflower, broccoli normandy (broccoli, cauliflower and carrots), stir fry mix and a few other vegetables. As the name of the place indicates they are all one dollar, each, and most of them come in one pound packages, but, I am half expecting the weight to drop, soon, to either 12 oz, 10 oz or 9 oz per package. In all, it is still less expensive than going to walmart, in that I don't have to use a car for comfort for frozen foods, the dollar tree is about 7 blocks, or less, from my house, great for a bike ride or a brisk walk. With the weather getting slowly warmer it will be easier to walk or ride a bike, it is hard in the winter.
I think I will be making fish for dinner. Fish sounds really good. There are so many ways to prepare it, steamed over boiling veg, roasted, with boiled veg, broken up and boiled with the fish with some cream cheese and mushrooms added to make it like a stroganoff. I think I will add a few noodles, less than an 1/8 of a cup, uncooked, to give it some texture. They all sound good. The steamed sounds the best, with pepper ground over it.

yawns
day four,
Dear blog diary,
it is now dinner. I am about to start making dinner.
breakfast was the left over chili stuff from dinner last night
three apples were the snacks I had
two cups of coffee, one was latte
lunch was two eggs and two chicken quarters, fried (beef fat, tasted remotely like mushrooms, was really good, I used garlic powder, curry and another seasoning, the items were fresh)
for dinner I am using the pressure cooker
two chicken legs,
one pound of vegetables, broccoli/cauliflower blend, frozen,
two medium onions
I wasn't hungry, the items I have been eating have been keeping me full, but, I will admit, I am craving a nice blueberry pie, banana cream pie, pizza, salad bar with turkey stuffing, KFC original recipe, not extra crispy, strawberry swirl ice cream, coconut (non sweetened), a double order of mashed potatoes with the colonel's gravy AND some coconut chocolate pudding. No, seriously, I am not hungry, just craving things that are now rather high carbohydrate count. I realize moderation is the key and depraving.....I mean depriving myself of said items totally will totally kill any urge I have to continue the program. I have read that not eating said items can have a genuine bad effect on the diet itself because if the body is craving something it is for a reason. I can't think of why there would be a reason for those things listed, aside from the fact they all sound so good (especially the chocolate pudding with coconut)
I am probably going to have the rest of the coffee with half milk. From now on I will be getting whole milk. As much as I use milk and it is usually for coffee, the extra cream/fat content will not harm me at all.
I may make an additional comment in this later. I am trying to slow my entries to one or two a day, that way my friend isn't constantly hit with, "your looser friend made another brain fart on his log, sign in to blogger to find out what it was."
The sweet part of the day, and I don't know of anyone who could relate to such a stupid thing as this, I was eating an apple, I think it was either a Gala or a really sweet, tangy relative, and found 5 seeds that had all sprouted. I planted them in little peat pots, hoping they grow. I love apple trees and these are good. If they grow I will probably plant one in a huge 30 gallon pot in my back yard, that way the tree will be able to be moved or thrown out if the owner isn't happy. The other four? I have relatives who own property and I think I may be able to give them one. Provided they grow.

this is the third morning
...in aspect it is the second day, but, I am trying to stick with it.
I woke at about 4:45 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep, so I got up, fed the cats, had the rest of the vegetables from yesterday, fried two chicken quarters from what looked like they were from a 1/2 size breed, (fried in beef fat with a generous amount of gourmet pepper ground on) and an apple.
Granted, I am craving bread, yeah, but, the natural carbs that occur in apples and vegetables are rather high, and, with those items to convert to sugar I am not missing it....just burritos, spaghetti, potatoes, et al. I am considering that a (singular) burrito, every 3 or 4 days is not going to be a problem.
As for the spaghetti, well, there is nothing that says I have to have noodles with the sauce. I found my Bolognese sauce, it is usually spicy, almost like a chili without beans, so it is good by itself.
I am not going to be a freak about weighing myself, I think the scale is afraid of me. It seems to hide when I walk toward the bathroom, so, I am going to weigh myself every 4 or 5 days. I am also going to weigh myself once in the morning on those days. So, the next time I am going to weigh myself will be no sooner than the 12th of this month.
(blah blah blah)
The coffee is ready. I am going to have it with about 2 oz 1% milk and 6 drops of stevia. The stevia I get is in liquid form, made by now foods and is in a base of water and alcohol. (those are the only three ingredients listed, so it is somewhat herbal/vegan friendly) If you are thinking I am pushing a product, I am not, it is the only manufacturer I have found that has only water and alcohol and, honestly, it is bitter by itself. It is not something you could get drunk on. But 6 drops makes a cup of coffee pleasantly sweet. (if you try it you may wish to use less)
Today, weather providing, I am going to go clean the rabbit hutch. I wanted to, earlier, but, with the weather we have been having, everything is frozen. When I went out, yesterday, to feed them, I looked down and there were rabbit tracks all over my back yard. It would seem they have a following. I have not seen any fox tracks, which is good, or tracks from the neighbor's two dogs, which is better, it means they are not letting their dogs run loose. In the country, I could understand, but this isn't the country, and, oddly enough, I don't like dog do in my yard, especially when I am mowing.
For lunch I had one fried El Monterey beef and bean chimichanga and one medium chicken leg, fried in the same beef fat from this morning. It was, quite possibly, the best burrito I have had in AGES. The seasonings of the pepper mixed with the burrito itself, it didn't need salsa or any of the salad dressings I usually put on (quite liberally, actually). The chicken leg was good. I could have nuked the burrito, but, I figured because I already had the oil hot I may as well save energy and double duty it.
I put some palmolive dish soap in the oil, after, it should convert the fat to soap. I don't have any potash or lye, otherwise I would use it. It is just a little bit of fat left. I think more than what I originally put in from the chicken I cooked in it.
It is gently snowing, out, and I am sure the rabbits are less than happy about that. I made them a small house. I jokingly call it my "Rabbitat, affordable housing for rabbits (and other small animals down on their luck) with carotene addiction". At first they wanted nothing to do with it, now, they sleep in it, on it, chew it, hide in it...I think they have accepted it.
I also had two cups of coffee, left over from breakfast, with 3 oz, total, of 1% milk and 12 drops, total, of stevia, one grapefruit and one medium apple
I indulged this afternoon and had a serving of popcorn popped in grease. It tasted like an old fashioned theater. It was good.
For dinner I made a batch of the chili without beans, it was good, I used two medium small onions, one pound of italian seasoned ground turkey, two carrots and three celery sticks. It too was good.
I made some tea with about 2 oz of milk, it was good.
I then found one of my rabbits was a female and she recently had two kits. They both died. I didn't know. I feel bad. I am hoping she had all she is having for now. I realize that she could be having more in a day or two. I had better get some bedding out there, tomorrow. I am hoping that the male doesn't get territorial. I have witnessed what can happen in those situations. I will have to wait a bit, it is cold right now, covered in snow, and I will have to get another cage to separate the two.
I did find out a while ago Midnight, the slightly smaller, and may I say at this point, the slightly larger of the two, is a black calico. It is really beautiful. The top half of her is black, the bottom half of her is dark brown marble with traces of black and violet, and there are a few specks of white on it, here and there. Really a beautiful animal!

pleasant shock today
first thing I did when I woke up, after I went to the bathroom, was get on the scale, just underwear on, I am now at 209
For breakfast I had one medium gala apple (quartered, cored, peel on, and tossed in the blender)
one grapefruit (peeled, halved, seeded and tossed in the blender)
Two frozen strawberries tossed in the blender
half cup of water
10 drops of stevia
bring to smooth but still chunky form
6 ice cubes blended more until in a smoothie consistency
makes about 32 oz.
it makes for a nice breakfast
I am going to the doctor, today, for a periodic exam.
the exam, there, went ok. as expected, I weighed 217 on his scale.
I had a large coffee with 2 packs of raw sugar and 4 oz. 2% milk
for dinner I made
two drumsticks and one thigh
one med small onion
two celery sticks
tablespoon beef fat
water
seasonings (thyme, rosemary and marjoram, salt and gourmet ground pepper)
pressured for 10 min
rinse and core two apples, 1/8thed
cinnamon and nutmeg
(cover back up, bring to pressure, turn off stove, add)
one pound celery/broccoli mix
put lid back on and cook for 7 more min
and a 24 oz can of beer and an apple (I love apples)
and another 24 oz can of beer.

a new diet idea, a new day
I watched "Julie and Julia" and "Fat Head". Julie and Julia made me hungry. Fat Head got me thinking. I am at, about, 216 pounds, clothed. I have some issues with doctors and their scales. I weigh myself, go to the doctor's office, and, low and behold, I weigh more and I am dressed the same. Today, I had this wonderful idea. I have two dumbbells that are slotted as weighing 10 pounds, each, the scale read them at 21 to 22 pounds, together. I will, from now on, take them with me to the doctors office and prove to them their scale is off and that they should be checked monthly as to how accurate they are.
Tom Naughton, the creator and idea behind the movie "Fat Head", had some really good points. Even with the items pushed to the max (the super sized meals) in the movie he was dissecting, "Super Size Me" there was no way he could order the supersize meal and come up with 5000 calories a day. The most he could max out on was about, roughly, 3500 calories, give or take. He also went on to point out that the high carb idea that has seemingly become the norm, actually supports the possibilities of causing diabetes.
I love my pressure cookers. [I have three. One is a gallon, one is a flat gallon to fry meat in, made of a much thicker metal (designed by Colonel Sanders) and a 16 qt pressure cooker that I use to cook a frozen turkey from solid to fully cooked in just over 2 hours.] They make healthy meals in less than a half hour. I realize that Julia Child would be in an uproar over relying on such an item, but, here goes.
As I said, today I weighed in at roughly 216 pounds, fully clothed, (normal weight blue jeans, tee shirt, under wear, socks and deck shoes) on a scale that may be weighing heavy to begin with. I am taking the weights to the post office to see if they are, in fact, 10 pound weights, and see if I can compensate the scale thusly. It would probably, at best, be a one or two pound difference, however, if, for every 20 pounds the scale adds 1.6 more pounds, then most scales would be way off.
Today, for breakfast, I had something rather healthy, I forgot totally what it was....(I will have to start logging in and entering everything I eat, d@mn!) {or I could just keep a little note pad with me, DUH!!!}
for lunch I had one pound of vegetables, 7 plum tomatoes, one chicken leg quarter, one pork steak two med small onions (tossed in the pressure cooker) and some coffee with 1% milk and 6 drops of stevia (a no calorie sweetener derived from a leaf of a plant native to south america) The amount of meat I ate in this meal seems a bit much, but, it was stretched over an hour and a half, and, without the carbs, I am still hungry. I also had 2 tablespoons of processed peanut butter with soy/vegetable oil. No bread and no jam. It would be a lot better for me if I ate just all natural peanut butter. I have a large stock of the vegetable oil sort, I really like peanut butter. I will get the all natural when I use up what I have now.
I walked to K-mart to get some batteries and a charger.
Yes, with every eating style change I am feeling weird, and this weird feeling will last for a few days, until my body adjusts. I will also have to enter my activities. GREAT!
(as I do this edit my cat is groaning and mumbling in her sleep, I think it is cute!)
I had a small cup of coffee with about 6 oz of soy milk in it at about 3:30.
It is now 6:22 and I am not hungry. I am sure you are probably thinking after what I had for a late lunch I will probably not be hungry until wednesday afternoon....(manners!!!)...I am getting a slight headache again, I get them a lot. I had a couple head injuries when I was young and have been getting headaches ever since. I am going to go take a few aspirin and a couple ibuprofin and hit the sack for a while. (no, amazingly enough, that is about what the dr prescribes for me when I go to him.)
for a late night snack I finished the vegetables, what were left, that were in some broth, and had 8 oz 1% milk with it
it was a good first day
